Sunday Concert Series: The Monarchs

Turtle Run Winery

Our second longest playing band at Turtle Run Winery is back! Join us for the good time rock-n-roll classics of The Monarchs! This band is THE Louisville Tradition. This is one of the bands that's a must hear if you want solid, solid professional music with crisp, clear, concise sound. Harmonies are spot on. Great energy and great entertainment for all. Our concerts are free and they are family friendly. You are welcome to bring food. We are normally selling grilled fare to benefit various programs from Special Olympics to Providence High School Swim and Dive. No other alcohol permitted. All concerts are outside. Wine tastings during concerts are outside. We have plenty of shade.  Wine can be purchased inside or outside. Cheese and crackers are available inside the winery. Grilled fare is sold on the east side of the winery behind the band. We have complimentary plastic cups. We sell wine glasses or you can bring your own wine glass. We suggest that you bring a lawn chair, but if you forget one, no problem as we'll lend one (or two or three...) to you. Lastly, if you would like to borrow an ice bucket for your wine, great. We have them available, just please return them to the winery or the tent before you leave.  No cover charge, no parking charge, yeah....very old school, isn't it?   Cheers, Laura, Jim, Max, Lauren, Joe, Catherine, and our wonderful staff.

Grape Harvest: St. Croix, Frontenac and Corot Noir

Turtle Run Winery

Harvesting grapes is on my mind! This Saturday at 7:00 AM or when you can arrive, we'll be harvesting St. Croix, Frontenac and Corot Noir grapes. If you would like to help, or your organization wants to help, great. The weather forecast has been dicey earlier in the week, but it's looking good for Saturday! Whoosh, right? We normally pick from 7:00 to 12:00 Noon. Some folks I know can't get here right at 7:00 and that's fine. 8:00 works too! FYI, how in the *&^%$ world did weeds grow so fast in 2 weeks? I just finished hand weeding the Frontenac vineyard and our teenage super helpers (back in school) hand weeded St. Croix and part of Frontenac. Hashtag, we don't like the commercial herbicides here! Here is a picture of catawba, another grape we grow and the difference in the photos is about a month in time. Cheers, Jim

Sunday Concert Series: Eric & The Iconics

Weaving effortlessly great pop hits from the 1970's forward, with great harmonies and instrumentation, we welcome Eric & The Iconics, a very talented band that will have you savoring the sound and dancing too. Our concerts are free and they are family friendly. You are welcome to bring food. Sunday Concert Series: LB&E (Louisville Brass & Electric)

Turtle Run Winery

Reed, Art and the gang are back! LB&E are known for good time music, especially those songs with horns. Expect some Chicago, maybe even a set or so. Very talented band.  Okay, there's an entire set of Chicago!  And it's great!  Lots of horns, lots of dancing, a great band to enjoy at Turtle Run! Our concerts are free and they are family friendly. Sunday Concert Series: The Monarchs Today Cancelled due to lack of concert parking

Turtle Run Winery

Hi Everyone, We're not too worried about the little showers that will occur today.  After 9 inches of rain from the hurricane, areas we count on for concert parking are super saturated, squishy to my bare feet with mud coming up between my toes.  That means cars stuck everywhere and our land looking like an impassible mud pit tomorrow, with probably a car or two stuck.  Granted, my tractor and chains can pull just about anything out.  Still.....  Unfortunately we have to cancel.  UGH!!!  Sunday weather is getting tough all of a sudden!   Our second longest playing band at Turtle Run Winery is back! Join us for the good time rock-n-roll classics of The Monarchs! This band is THE Louisville Tradition. Barrel Tastings

Turtle Run Winery

Come out today, December 29th, Sunday, as we "need" to sample our barrels.  In actuality, we do need to sample our barrels to see how they are aging, to map out blends and to top them off.  Barrels don't leak, per se, but rather wine evaporates through the staves which creates ullage, or a very thin atmosphere in the barrel and this thin atmosphere produces micro-oxidation, which can enhance fruitfulness in the wines.  Additionally, oak imparts flavors and older barrels, inert of oak, still add complexity to the flavors of the wine within the barrel. We had a fun time tasting barrels on Saturday, with more to come today!

Blast from the Past!

Turtle Run Winery

Have you ever wondered if that old axiom is true, do wines get better with age?  Well, find out this weekend at Turtle Run Winery as we are set to host our annual "Blast from the Past".  With 25 years of winemaking, we have a section in the winery reserved for older wines, dry, sweet, red and white. This is your opportunity to sample and savor older Turtle Run Winery wines and purchase some too!  The "wine list" will constantly change over the course of Saturday and it will reset again on Sunday, so literally both days will have different offerings.  And yes, we will sell out of wines constantly.  There will be a limit on how many of an individual wine we will sell to an individual or family.  Please share and don't be selfish. We want to see how our wines are aging, that's part of it.  And sometimes we age wine just because we knew the wine was great and wanted to try it years later.  We do know, or have a very solid hypothesis that wines with minimal intervention (fining agents, added tannins, liquid oak, things like that) will age the best.

Saturday Out Front Little Ol’ Bonfire / Sunday — the wine glass experience

Turtle Run Winery

This Saturday, we will have another one of our little ol' "Out Front Ring Fires." We'll open up an older vintage or two, because wine not, right? It's a relaxing day for enjoyable conversations around something that creates a lot of mental peace -- fire. I love the snapping and crackling and the smell. Just the entire sensation of controlled fires.... We call these our "Fireside Chats."  A relaxing time, indeed. This Sunday, with rain in the forecast, no fire, oh well.  But here's a great idea!!!  Ever hear there are red wine glasses and white wine glasses?  Of course you have!  But if you haven't, there is an entire industry built around this concept.  What if, through physics and physiologics I can explain very scientifically how we receive perceptive differences in flavor from different shaped wine glasses, but I will also be able to explain through your personal experience, with science, that the notion that there are red wine glasses and white wine glasses, down to the individual variety of grape is all based upon innuendo.  Should be fun.  Come on by -- something fun to do on a rainy Sunday.
