SUMMARY:Exploring oak -- Saturday June 21'st wine list
DESCRIPTION:For Saturday June 21’s Wonderful Wine List we will feature….oak!!! If anyone wants to try a wine doused with an old sample of liquid oak (which might provide a histamine reaction)\, caveat emptor\, but then you would know the flavor!! Our lead wine will be the 2018 Seyval Blanc\, with the 2020 Chambourcin\, 2 versions\, providing some wonderful contrasts. Then\, there’s the barn aged wines!! For the sweet wine fans\, I have some great ideas but I want to run them by our sweet staff!!

SUMMARY:Saturday Comparative Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Continuing our Saturday “tradition\,” if you can call this popular comparative tasting a tradition since we have only been doing this for a few weeks now\, but let’s see if we can taste some contrasts between vintages and within vintages and in blending. We do have some limited quantities on some wines that will be compared. In no particular order……. \nSyrah 2023 to Syrah 2023 just bottled. The newly minted Syrah aged in the barn and has a dash of 2024 Syrah and 2024 Cab Franc\, whereas the older bottled Syrah 2023 has a dash of 2023 Cab Sauv. \nRhapsody in White versus Rhapsody in White. Both are blends of barrel aged and fermented Vignoles and tank aged Chardonnay. When blending the new version we didn’t open a bottle of the version we bottled last year. That should be fun. \nSlip My Mind 2024 versus the 2017 with the botrytis bacteria. Can you taste the difference that aging and especially a bacteria can have an effect on the wine? It will be obvious that you can see the difference. Sweet wine with dynamic flavors! \nThen if someone twists my arm\, how about Malbec 2023 versus Malbec 2024? To get the 2024 to remotely come close to tasting like the 2023\, we blended a little 2024 Syrah and 2024 Cab Franc into the blend.

SUMMARY:Saturday Out Front Little Ol' Bonfire / Sunday -- the wine glass experience
DESCRIPTION:This Saturday\, we will have another one of our little ol’ “Out Front Ring Fires.” We’ll open up an older vintage or two\, because wine not\, right? It’s a relaxing day for enjoyable conversations around something that creates a lot of mental peace — fire. I love the snapping and crackling and the smell. Just the entire sensation of controlled fires…. We call these our “Fireside Chats.”  A relaxing time\, indeed. \nThis Sunday\, with rain in the forecast\, no fire\, oh well.  But here’s a great idea!!!  Ever hear there are red wine glasses and white wine glasses?  Of course you have!  But if you haven’t\, there is an entire industry built around this concept.  What if\, through physics and physiologics I can explain very scientifically how we receive perceptive differences in flavor from different shaped wine glasses\, but I will also be able to explain through your personal experience\, with science\, that the notion that there are red wine glasses and white wine glasses\, down to the individual variety of grape is all based upon innuendo.  Should be fun.  Come on by — something fun to do on a rainy Sunday. \n

SUMMARY:Blast from the Past!
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered if that old axiom is true\, do wines get better with age?  Well\, find out this weekend at Turtle Run Winery as we are set to host our annual “Blast from the Past”.  With 25 years of winemaking\, we have a section in the winery reserved for older wines\, dry\, sweet\, red and white. \nThis is your opportunity to sample and savor older Turtle Run Winery wines and purchase some too!  The “wine list” will constantly change over the course of Saturday and it will reset again on Sunday\, so literally both days will have different offerings.  And yes\, we will sell out of wines constantly.  There will be a limit on how many of an individual wine we will sell to an individual or family.  Please share and don’t be selfish. \nWe want to see how our wines are aging\, that’s part of it.  And sometimes we age wine just because we knew the wine was great and wanted to try it years later.  We do know\, or have a very solid hypothesis that wines with minimal intervention (fining agents\, added tannins\, liquid oak\, things like that) will age the best.

SUMMARY:Barrel Tastings
DESCRIPTION:Come out today\, December 29th\, Sunday\, as we “need” to sample our barrels.  In actuality\, we do need to sample our barrels to see how they are aging\, to map out blends and to top them off.  Barrels don’t leak\, per se\, but rather wine evaporates through the staves which creates ullage\, or a very thin atmosphere in the barrel and this thin atmosphere produces micro-oxidation\, which can enhance fruitfulness in the wines.  Additionally\, oak imparts flavors and older barrels\, inert of oak\, still add complexity to the flavors of the wine within the barrel. \nWe had a fun time tasting barrels on Saturday\, with more to come today!

SUMMARY:Sunday Concert Series: The Monarchs Today Cancelled due to lack of concert parking
DESCRIPTION:Hi Everyone\, \nWe’re not too worried about the little showers that will occur today.  After 9 inches of rain from the hurricane\, areas we count on for concert parking are super saturated\, squishy to my bare feet with mud coming up between my toes.  That means cars stuck everywhere and our land looking like an impassible mud pit tomorrow\, with probably a car or two stuck.  Granted\, my tractor and chains can pull just about anything out.  Still…..  Unfortunately we have to cancel.  UGH!!!  Sunday weather is getting tough all of a sudden! \n  \nOur second longest playing band at Turtle Run Winery is back! Join us for the good time rock-n-roll classics of The Monarchs! This band is THE Louisville Tradition. This is one of the bands that’s a must hear if you want solid\, solid professional music with crisp\, clear\, concise sound. Harmonies are spot on. Great energy and great entertainment for all. \nOur concerts are free and they are family friendly. You are welcome to bring food. We are normally selling grilled fare to benefit various programs from Special Olympics to Providence High School Swim and Dive. No other alcohol permitted. \nAll concerts are outside. Wine tastings during concerts are outside. We have plenty of shade.  Wine can be purchased inside or outside. Cheese and crackers are available inside the winery. Grilled fare is sold on the east side of the winery behind the band. We have complimentary plastic cups. We sell wine glasses or you can bring your own wine glass. We suggest that you bring a lawn chair\, but if you forget one\, no problem as we’ll lend one (or two or three…) to you. Lastly\, if you would like to borrow an ice bucket for your wine\, great. We have them available\, just please return them to the winery or the tent before you leave.  No cover charge\, no parking charge\, yeah….very old school\, isn’t it? \n  \nCheers\, Laura\, Jim\, Max\, Lauren\, Joe\, Catherine\, and our wonderful staff.

SUMMARY:Grape Harvest: St. Croix\, Frontenac and Corot Noir
DESCRIPTION:Harvesting grapes is on my mind! This Saturday at 7:00 AM or when you can arrive\, we’ll be harvesting St. Croix\, Frontenac and Corot Noir grapes. If you would like to help\, or your organization wants to help\, great. The weather forecast has been dicey earlier in the week\, but it’s looking good for Saturday! Whoosh\, right? \nWe normally pick from 7:00 to 12:00 Noon. Some folks I know can’t get here right at 7:00 and that’s fine. 8:00 works too! \nFYI\, how in the *&^%$ world did weeds grow so fast in 2 weeks? I just finished hand weeding the Frontenac vineyard and our teenage super helpers (back in school) hand weeded St. Croix and part of Frontenac. Hashtag\, we don’t like the commercial herbicides here! \nHere is a picture of catawba\, another grape we grow and the difference in the photos is about a month in time. \nCheers\,\nJim

DESCRIPTION:We are introducing two spectacular wines\, Lauren’s Blend and Max’s Small Batch Red — Wedding Wine. Lauren and Max were married last October and both of them blended a wine for the wedding. Max’s is impossible to recreate and luckily we bottled an extra amount. Lauren’s blend was one in which we theoretically could add to the wine list\, so we designed a label and painstakingly blended the wine last week. Do these wines go with chocolate? I know one does! But which one?!?! Lauren’s Blend should become a staple on the semi-sweet list right next to Catherine’s Blend. Max’s Wedding wine is very much a limited quantity wine. \nThis Friday and Saturday

SUMMARY:Wine Glass Tasting Experience -- Today -- July 5\, 2024!!!!
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 5th at Turtle Run Winery. Thinking a lot of people are off work and perhaps looking for something fun to do. I don’t do this often\, certainly not often enough. I think I can manage this with our awesome staff today. For anyone who asks\, we’ll do one of my “Critically Acclaimed” sensory analysis on how the shape of a wine glass affects the acute flavors we perceive through volumetric pressure\, vapor pressure\, slope\, flow rate\, and the subconscious responses in nanoseconds to flavor and aroma recognition due to mouth vaporization location and rate. In semi-layman’s terms\, I can prove there is no such thing as a red wine glass\, a white wine glass\, but I can prove that wine does taste different out of different glasses and your perceptive like of this glass over that glass is tied to your individually unique biology. Anyone game? Come on out today! Cheers\, Jim

Dang it…Jim \n  \nHere we go\, we have masterful band of southern/folk rock\, which should be highly entertaining and will really get you going musically.  Lots of instrumentations including the electric guitar\, bass\, drums\, acoustic guitar\, sax\, and an amazing fiddle\, 1 lead vocal\, 3 backup vocals.  This should be great! \nOur concerts are free and they are family friendly.
