  • Sunday Concert Series: The Ron Jones Jazz Cancelled due to excessive heat index

    Turtle Run Winery

We will come up with a fun wine experience to do in lieu of the concert, since the heat index is going to be way up there tomorrow (Sunday) Rick and Bill, who run sound, have an exceptionally easy day with the Ron Jones Jazz.  Simply put, this group should be playing nationally at the top jazz festivals.  And some of them do.  This is jazz at its absolute finest.  Pure, clean, concise with superbly top notch musicians, the best of the best.  If you are new to jazz, turned off of jazz, give this a try.  Trust me.  This is the longest continuous group playing at Turtle Run Winery at the longest continuous concert series at wineries in the Midwest.  Something good must be going on. Our concerts are free and they are family friendly. You are welcome to bring food. We are normally selling grilled fare to benefit various programs from Special Olympics to Providence High School Swim and Dive. No other alcohol permitted. All concerts are outside. Wine tastings during concerts are outside. Wine can be purchased inside or outside. Cheese and crackers are available inside the winery. Grilled fare is sold on the east side of the winery behind the band. We have complimentary plastic cups. We sell wine glasses or you can bring your own wine glass. We suggest that you bring a lawn chair. Lastly, if you would like to borrow an ice bucket for your wine, great. We have them available, just please return them to the winery or the tent before you leave. Cheers, Laura, Jim, Max and Lauren, Joe, Catherine, and our wonderful staff.

  • Holiday Concert Series: Nervous Melvin & the Mistakes then Frequency

    Turtle Run Winery

Today, we are hosting two of the best and long running bands in the area, Nervous Melvin and then Frequency.  Who can't remember going to Butchertown Pub or Phoenix Hill and hearing Nervous Melvin? Nervous Melvin is the eclectic rock band that creates their own groove to hits, great songs, rock, alternative rock, you name it, Nervous Melvin.  I love their personal twists to classic songs.  Sometimes, you have to stop and think, yeah, I've heard that before, what / who is that, because of how original they can twist a song into something different and totally cool.  Nervous plays from 12:00 to 3:00 or so, then.... FreQuency with it's well known musicians and vocal talent has become one of Louisville areas band to watch perform! Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Doobie Brothers The Pretenders, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Linda R, Smokey Robinson and much more!!  Mary and Trent can really hit the vocals with great harmonies and just the overall feel and blend of the sounds is quite remarkable.  They will play from 3:30 to 6:30 ish. • Blast from the Past! The Snow Recovery Date (s)

    Turtle Run Winery

Have you ever wondered if that old axiom is true, do wines get better with age?  Well, find out this weekend at Turtle Run Winery as we are set to host our annual "Blast from the Past".  With 25 years of winemaking, we have a section in the winery reserved for older wines, dry, sweet, red and white. We know of no other winery that hosts an event like this!!! This is your opportunity to sample and savor older Turtle Run Winery wines and purchase some too!  The "wine list" will constantly change over the course of Saturday and it will reset again on Sunday, so literally both days will have different offerings.  And yes, we will sell out of wines constantly.   If you find a wine you really crave and you see someone else who likes the same wine, please share what is available for purchase as all wines are limited in quantity. We want to see how our wines are aging, that's part of it.  And sometimes we age wine just because we knew the wine was great and wanted to try it years later.  We do know, or have a very solid hypothesis that wines with minimal intervention (fining agents, added tannins, liquid oak, things like that) will age the best and we make our wines with minimal interventions.  Always have There is a very reasonable tasting fee of $10 which will give you access to taste more than 40, probably more than 50 wines.  Wine prices will have zero inflation, so the prices will mirror the prices on our wine list.  Quantity discounts by mixing and matching any of our wines will be the same as they have always been, 10% for 6 bottles, 15% for a case, 20% for two cases or more. Folks enjoyed last weekend and we received quite a few requests to have it again this weekend due to last weekend's snow.  Wine not, right?

  • “Shattering” the myth of “Red Wine Glasses” and “White Wine Glasses” through science

More enjoyable times at Turtle Run Winery this weekend. Sunday's weather looks great for lighting the fire rings, always a popular gathering spot. Saturday, storms, so no fire. But..... With limited time to put together our Wine Appreciation Classes, on Saturday at 5:00, I'll be discussing the science of our "flavoring" subconscious and the physics of wine glasses. I will completely shatter (pun intended) the notion of "red wine glasses" and "white wine glasses." I don't know if I will do this in the winery or the tent. I suppose attendance will determine that. Probably an hour's time. Just the standard tasting fee applies. I'm not really taking reservations, but I probably should?!?! Perhaps I should say, if you are interested, send me a message or a comment on this post.  Just go on Facebook Cheers, Jim
